(Mel)

MEL was born on June 11 1991. She was a shy puppy, not one who like being first forward for attention. She was shown very little as a puppy; her first win was in a novice class at the LAC open show at 13 months old - this proved to be the start of her show career.

Her first CC came at Border Union in 1993, followed by her second at Leeds and her third and champion title at Bournemouth the same year.

I decided to mate her at the end of 1994 but this was unsuccessful. Instead, 1995 was to be HER year. Starting with Manchester, she went RBIS followed by BIS at Birmingham National. Many group wins and placings throughout the year left her No 8 All Breeds what an achievement!

Mel loves the big ring and all the applause from the surrounding ringside, as is apparent by her tendency to grow in stature and flowing movement as she goes round the ring leaving me to follow in her wake!

Outside the ring she enjoys life as a family pet, lives indoors and rules the household. Holidays out in the caravan are a favourite of hers, when she can often be seen sitting in the windows 'on guard' and watching the world go by.

I earlier mentioned an unsuccessful mating and this has proved to be the case on many occasions, resulting in Mel never having a litter of her own, which has been a great disappointment to us.

Crufts 2001 proved to be a great show for both Met and myself, Mel taking her first first' at Crufts as well as my first 'first' there; she followed this up with the RBCC - all this at ten years of age!

This photo was taken in September when Mel won Best Veteran at NOELAC's first championship show - proving that now, at 10 1/2 years, she is every bit a champion of the breed as she was when she gained her title.
